Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need straps with my hammock?
Always purchase straps separately unless the kit explicitly includes them. Standard carabiner loops do not protect trees. Flat webbing straps rated to 1,500+ lbs are the correct setup and required in most national parks.
How far apart do trees need to be?
12-15 feet apart, 8-12 inches in diameter minimum. The 30° hang angle (straps at 30° below horizontal) is the correct setup for the proper structural load distribution and comfortable lay.
What about rain protection?
A hammock without a tarp is only appropriate in guaranteed dry weather. A silnylon or silpoly tarp hung with a ridge line provides adequate coverage. The Kammock Mantis includes this — all other hammocks on this list require a separate tarp.
