Grant's Loadout for the Trip That Didn't Happen
Grant packed for a March backpacking trip. The trip was postponed. The pack remains assembled. Here is a complete inventory. See full review →
The March trip was cancelled in February due to a scheduling conflict that I identified three weeks before departure. The pack remains assembled in the gear room. I am going to document its contents, because the assembly represents the best current iteration of my three-season Pacific Northwest loadout and the documentation serves a purpose independent of whether the trip happens.
The Complete Loadout
Shelter: MSR Hubba Hubba NX2 (3 lbs 4 oz). Verified packed in the outer pocket of the Osprey Atmos 65.
Sleep system: Western Mountaineering UltraLite bag (2 lbs), Thermarest ProLite Plus pad (1 lb 5 oz). Compressed and secured in the main compartment bottom.
Pack: Osprey Atmos AG 65 (See Grant's full review →) (4 lbs 10 oz). Loaded with all items listed. Hip belt adjusted. Load lifters confirmed properly angled. Sternum strap at correct height for load transfer.
Cooking: Jetboil Flash (13.1 oz) with MSR IsoPro canister (3.9 oz canister). Meal plan included in the trip research folder: six freeze-dried meals, eight snack allocations, two coffee allocations.
Navigation: Garmin inReach Mini 2 (3.5 oz). Charged. Satellite subscription confirmed active. Emergency contact information programmed.
Total pack weight: 32 lbs 7 oz. This is within the acceptable range for a three-day trip. I have not carried 32 lbs for three consecutive days. I have confirmed the weight by weighing the assembled pack on the bathroom scale.
The trip is rescheduled for May. The pack is ready. I am in the planning phase for the May trip logistics.
